Description

Etro was founded in 1968 by Gerolamo Etro as a textile design company. By the time of the company's birth, Gimmo and his wife Roberta, an antique dealer, had amassed a collection of 300 antique shawls, which remains one of the largest private collections in existence today.

The main stylistic driving force of Etro in the first decades was the Paisley pattern and variations on this theme. The company's headquarters is located in Milan on Via Spartaco, and it was renovated in 1977. The headquarters includes textile art, which is archived in their internal library.

The renowned textile director Džekopo Etro later commented on this period, noting that he began visiting the archives in childhood, spending many hours copying fabric designs and experimenting with his creative style. After Etro's directors' trip to India, the furniture textile line debuted in 1981. The "swirling" Paisley design discovered on this trip is now a "synonym" for the label according to Elle Magazine.

"Only the finest cashmere goat wool has been used for the production of this shawl, which is combed out from cashmere goats with a special comb."

The scarf is thin, almost transparent, and lightweight, suitable for wearing all year round (weight approximately 90 grams). Warmth - despite its thinness, the scarf is very warm. The special fabric weave ensures that this scarf does not wrinkle!

Answers to frequently asked questions.

How long does it take for orders to be shipped?

Delivery usually takes 2-5 business days.

We ship orders on Tuesdays and Fridays by 3:00 PM on regular days.

During promotions and special offers, we process and ship orders every day.

Is silk made in China of lower quality than silk made elsewhere?

No. Silk is a high-quality and expensive material, and its quality standards are high worldwide.

The differences are more about fabric types and traditions:

  • Satin and chiffon are more commonly produced in China
  • Twill and crepe in Italy and Turkey
  • Both satin and twill in France

The choice is mainly a matter of taste.

Why aren't the collections produced in Latvia?

Our priority is the highest quality.

Currently, Latvia lacks the necessary infrastructure and specialization to produce silk, cashmere, or wool products at a world-class level.

That’s why we collaborate with manufacturers who have developed these skills over centuries.

What does "Made in Latvia" mean if the production takes place abroad?

The design is created in Latvia - this is where prints and color concepts are developed.

Production is entrusted to the world’s best specialists:

  • Cashmere - Kashmir region, India
  • Silk - Como, Italy

This ensures both creative identity and the highest quality.

Why aren't the collections manufactured in China to reduce the price?

We protect our design and Latvian art.

Copyright protection is weaker in China, and there is a risk that designs could be copied and end up on mass platforms.

Our priority is not the lowest price, but long-term value and authenticity.

Can scarves and shawls be washed in a washing machine?

No.

Silk, cashmere, and wool require especially gentle care.

We recommend only professional dry cleaning.

Why is silk so expensive?

Silk production is a handcrafted process that cannot be fully automated.

Moreover, the number of people practicing this craft is decreasing.

It takes about 150 silkworm cocoons to make one silk tie.

Additionally, climate change is reducing the regions where silkworms can be raised.

Demand is increasing, supply is decreasing – prices are rising in the long term.

Is silk and cashmere produced in Europe?

Processing takes place in Europe - weaving, printing, and finishing.

However, raw materials are not sourced in Europe.

Silk is obtained from subtropical regions: China, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and others.

Cashmere wool comes from Nepal, Mongolia, China, and Tibet.

Europe works with imported fibers, yarns, and fabrics.
